snorkelling at mauna kea beach

On the 5th November we were quite tired from the long day previously.  We hadn’t yet snorkelled at the Mauna Kea Beach where we were staying, so a local snorkel was ideal for us.  We also spent some time lying on the beach and in the resort pool area.  Hours past in no time, and suddenly the sun was setting.

We were too relaxed to be taking many photos, although there wasn’t quite as many fish and sea creatures at Mauna Kea as other popular snorkelling locations.  We still rate Mauna Kea beach very highly, although wouldn’t particularly recommend going to unless you’re actually staying at the hotel, as there are other just as good and easier to access beaches.  Mauna Kea Beach is definitely the nicest beach on the island where you can sleep in a hotel, wake up and walk outside for a snorkel before breakfast.

For dinner we ate a set tasting menu “Mangoes of Hawai’i”, which had a different wine for each of the three courses.  We then went to a little romantic area where there is a spotlight pointing into the water.  We had almost given up looking for things until suddenly we saw a ray, and then also a green sea turtle.  We loved the green sea turtles, and we thought that the turtle had come to check on us to see if we had finished packing, as in the morning we were heading to Honolulu on the island O’ahu.

More Hawai’i honeymoon blogging to come!
