Matthew,
I'm by far particularly knowledgeable on the subject, but would have to say no. *Need* is a pretty strong word. Depending on your acceptance of thick thatch, or acceptable lifetime of lawn before having to completely replace it, will depend on whether you should bother. From my personal experiences alone, if you've mown your Santa Anna regularly, then there's probably very little need to ever completely de-thatch it. If you rarely ever mow your lawn, then yes you probably do need to.
It's an unfortunate opportunity cost, because the downside of mowing it down hard is that it'll look bad until it recovers, and the upside is that it will be less spongy and possibly more aesthetic once it finally recovers.
Don't let anyone tell you what you *must* do, if it ever dies or does poorly it certainly won't be specifically because you've never mown it right back. It'd be more likely because it is over-watered, under-watered, competing with weeds, not enough sun, too much sun, under or over fertilised, mown too short to regularly, etc. Hope that helps! :-)

Tom,

Just wondering if you had a further update on your plight with Windsor Green. I just laid some recently, in Adelaide (northern suburb) after following similar advice as what you were given. Hopefully I have better luck (I'm trying to be optimistic)

Cheers,
Suneel

Hello everyone.

Becoming a Traceur and being good at Parkour/Free-running is NOT easy. It takes hard work and years of training to 'perfect' the art although it can never really be perfected.

Watching a documentary or some youtube videos does not make you an expert Traceur. No sane Traceur would recommend you to try anything without supervision or safety precautions until you feel safe and can do these things. Fear is what holds back the body, so don't be afraid.

Take safe precautions and injuries like that won't happen. ;)

I've been a Traceur for years now and have recently just turned 19. I never took lessons but I always trained with mats in the gym. Wall-runs, vaults, flips, jumps, rolls. I now do these things in many places and have travelled abroad to do Parkour.

Please be safe, for your own sake. It'll be much more satisfying when you become a master but also safe.

I've just picked up a replacement newer model camera, the DSC-TX10, courtesy of Sony on warranty. It is 5m waterproof instead of 3m, and the seals of the camera look to be a lot more robust. Thanks Sony!
