Some friends and I started a weekly running club, where we take turns in organising a group run. Tonight David organised us to run around the Torrens. He made us run up and down stairs in the tennis stadium. They (the stairs) killed me! David and Ben also (that is David and Ben killed me, the stairs I don’t think killed them). In fact, David showed us a very impressive ‘stair crawling’, where he lies down at the top of the stairs, as if he were doing a push up, and then with only his hands and feet touch the ground, he would crawl down the stairs. It was like he was doing a one-handed push-up (or push-down) down each stair.

half marathon
Yesterday I ran a half marathon with a bit of incline in the mix. I ran over to linear park, and went up towards the hills. I had my head down as I was running, as I was feeling pain from last weekend. With the head down, I somehow veered off of linear park and took one kilometre to notice. Click on ‘view details’ and then on ‘player’ to view a real-time style animation, it is kinda funny.
Maintaining 12.0 km/h average was a real struggle, I really had to push myself and I’ve been feeling it in my legs all day today.
I’m quite excited that I managed to beat my last competitive half marathon time (from 2010 Adelaide Marathon festival), which was 1h 46m 13s back in about August 2010. In a competition, especially one that I ran with David, there is much more motivation as well as drinks support along the way. Therefore the 1h 44m 8s benchmark I set today was reasonably good!
My best marathon time is 3h 26m. If I can continue the pace I ran yesterday for a full marathon, I would finish a marathon in 3h 28m. So I still have some work to do to break my marathon PB. I think aiming for a 1h 30m half marathon (on the flat) would be a great goal to get to, in preparation for the Melbourne Marathon festival in October 2011, and I am going to have a crack at least once a fortnight until I can.
Having a crack at running a marathon
Today I went out to do a long run, with 21km in mind. I was feeling good at about the 5km mark so I decided to have a crack at running a full marathon. Unfortunately in the low 20′s my knees were feeling a bit tight, so I cut it short and went straight home. Still, I ended up with having done a 35km run, with my previous longest since I’ve got back into running being only 21km. I’m happy with that!
