beaches of big island

Continuing on our blogging of our honeymoon, the next day was the 3rd November.  We did the usual sleeping in, and eating a buffet breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the Mauna Kea Beach.  We planned an excursion to go to some beaches close by where we were staying.  We needed a break from driving like what we did for the Green Sand Beach. As we left breakfast, we noticed a bunch of turkeys that ran through the resort!

We went to a few beaches. Hapuna Beach was great, but heaps of people.  Kekaha Kai was not the best beach, and we couldn’t test out the snorkelling because it was too windy and murky.  It was also a ridiculous drive across the lava field to get to it!  The Ford Mustang got a beating on this road, and it was really a waste of time because we needed to drive so slowly.  We definitely should have had a car with deep suspension to have driven that road.  Anaeho’omalu Bay was okay, although nothing rings a bell about it.  Kua Bay was by far the BEST beach we went to.  There is a new access road that goes to it, that was constructed in 2005, also with basic facilities.

The photos we took of how beautiful the sand is generally contain ourselves, which we considered to be too sexy for the internet.  Particularly with Morven’s red bikini! Instead we present some panorama’s.

Tom went back in for one last swim before heading off to try one of the other beaches.  In some respects we regret not staying at this beach.  This last photo was accidentally taken with ‘underwater’ mode enabled, so it suffered a bit of colour correction.

  1. Hi Nanny Jean! :)
Morven and I have written you a postcard with a wedding photo, it’s soon to be posted with the rest of them. If you have somewhere you can access the internet, there will be 1,000 more wedding photos to see at tomandmorven.org by the time you receive the postcard! Otherwise we can arrange a viewing sometime soon.
    Love Tom
