Macaroons

Morven was fortunate to receive some recipes on making macaroons.  She also recently acquired a book titled I ♥ Macaroons.  Needless to say, they didn’t last long.

She thinks she may make some more in a couple weeks if she manages to get some free time.

Wedding Invitations

A lot of time has gone in to designing, finding graphics, re-designing based on new sketches, finding a better graphic, redesigning based on new graphic, printing, collating addresses, checking addresses, asking for updated addresses, selecting paper, buying paper, microsoft mail-merging, realising paper bought was wrong size, going back to buy more paper, re-printing when unexpected address updates become known, checking, and re-printing when re-printed envelopes that required updating become smudged.

Wedding Invitations

90 odd wedding invitations ready to be licked and posted

I took them downstairs and put them on our coffee table in preparation for a ‘Morven-and-Tom-Masterchef-watching-envelope-licking-session’. I am so proud we have (nearly) finished off this task. Although it is currently hurting to hear, every 5 to 10 seconds, a ‘whooooosh-SPLAT’ sound as each envelope, one by one, slides off the pile and on to the floor. Surely after the first ten slide off, they would stop, but I think envelope 25 just slid off! Better go pick them up off the floor …

Honeymoon planning

I’ve just finished typing a draft itinerary of our honeymoon into a Google spreadsheet.  The idea of doing it in a Google spreadsheet is so that whenever I get a spare minute, regardless of where I am, I can do some quick web surfing to see if I can fine tune any aspects of the itinerary.  It also means that if I know Morven is going to be home from work early when I want to be working on it, I can just stay at work and do it so that I can be sure she won’t creep up to me from behind and find out about the surprise honeymoon!

So far I have a draft plan for flights and hotels.  I need to scope out more details about the three hotels we’re going to be staying at to make sure they’re good enough quality for my wife to be. I also need to work out some things to do for each day.

Back into running

Late last year I was really into the XC mountain biking, and starting to become mildly athletic and maybe even the most skillful I’ve ever been at it.  It was great fun, and I had a riding partner, Nick.  Nick started riding a few years ago, and his consistent, regular, hard riding, now also with some (or a lot of) road riding, has earned in some pole positions in the Mens Elite category with the Adelaide Mountain Bike Club.  It’s great to go riding with Nick because he makes me ride hard.  Then at the start of 2010, I entered the Tour Down Under Challenge ride with him, and did a 160km ride.  I don’t think I had ever ridden more than about 100km, so this was huge.  Either had Nick really either (maybe a bit more than 100km, but not much).  To make a long story short, Nick pulled me through almost the entire way – very grateful for his wind shielding! To make a long story short, I finished the ride, and I was now all round the fittest XC and road cyclist I’ve ever been.

After that ride, I felt like I’d done enough riding for a while, so I stopped.  I joined an online gaming clan, and started playing computer games.  Now six months later, I consider myself unfit.  Due to a combination of seeing myself unfit, and seeing a photo of myself after finishing a Melbourne Marathon a few years ago, I decided it’s time to get back into marathon running.  It won’t happen until well after the wedding, as I have a lot of work to do to get back into being fit, let alone running fit, or long distance running fit.  My plan is to just do regular short runs (no more than 6km on weekdays, and no more than 12km on weekends) before the wedding, and ensure that I maintain good stretching sessions between runs, including some abdominal muscle work.

This plan will help to keep me fit for the wedding day, and ensure that I set my body up to be able to handle a more gruelling training program where this time I won’t cause any injuries.  So I went for a 4km run today, and ouch my legs hurt!
