yoga

It must be about two weeks since I last wrote anyhting down here. Mostly, because I’ve been catching up with everything since being really sick. As a result of getting really sick, the flexibility of my body has become incredibly bad, so I’m taking up my own little form of yoga. I’ve been to a physio to get some serious stretching done a few times, and now i’m all good except for my hamstrings. So, every hour ON the hour I do a little hamstring stretch. But I won’t deliberately get out of bed for it :)

Today I helped organised a bbq at Adelaide Uni for the IEE. I’m exhausted. Nothing the German Club won’t fix. I need to get some of MY work done – so behind!

pendulum dnb @ earth

Last night was the album launch of Pendulum’s debut album, “Hold Your Colour”, at Earth nightclub. It was by far the best night of my life. That is kind of disturbing in a way, considering I went by myself!! :-D Within a few minutes of queing up to get in (and oh my god – the queue was about 300 metres long!!!) I noticed someone I knew was just a few people ahead of me, and a few minutes after that saw another person I knew, so that was cool. It was easy to make some friends for the night as soon as I got in as well. Massive shout outs to Tim and Bonney who I spoke to in the line up for the cloak room – two really cool people that work the desks at FreshFM. Tim recognised me from when I came in to collect a prize once, too! :) Unfortunately there was some pretty bad problems with a connector plug from one of the decks, and the sound stopped working heaps of times which really screwed up pendulum’s gig. The night opened with MPK playing awesome (mostly Adelaide) DNB, and he played for ages. Eventually he handed over to John Doe (another Adelaide DNB artist) who also played for ages, playing AWESOME stuff. Eventually at about 2:15 pendulum came on, and it was sweet as. I was forced to leave at about 3am due to massive cough of death fits, whilst pendulum’s set was still cranking. I actually reckon that MPK was better live, I think because he was playing his choice of stuff that wasn’t neccessarily all his own work.

Here is a little info about the pendulum album:
PENDULUM
‘HOLD YOUR COLOUR’
BREAKBEAT KAOS
3LP/CD
(JULY 2005)
Pendulum drop their eagerly anticipated debut album ‘Hold Your Colour’ on Breakbeat Kaos.
Featuring 13 bold and diverse tracks, the album combines the trio’s groundbreaking blend of heavy electronic funk, never-before-heard innovative sounds and ‘real’ musical elements to produce a monster of a long player, destined to break down genres and smash up charts worldwide.
After bursting onto the scene with 2003′s debut ‘Vault’ (which won “Drum’n'Bass Tune Of The Year”, Pendulum have since gone onto take the titles of “Best Breakthrough Producers”, “Best Producers”, and again “Tune Of The Year” in 2004 with the mighty ‘Another Planet’ – an anthem of such epic proportions it made No. 43 in the UK National Charts.
‘Hold Your Colour’ is set to follow suit when it drops; straight from the huge cinematic introduction, the album takes you on a action packed ride from anthems to emotional journeys and everything in between. From furious dancefloors bombs ‘Slam’, ‘Hold Your Colour’ and the massive ‘Tarantula’ featuring the vocal talents of MC Spyda and Tenor Fly, to smooth soulful rollouts ‘Plasticworld’ and ‘Streamline’. From breakbeat monsters ‘Fasten Your Seatbelts’ and ‘Out Here’, to the latin-rock electro fuelled funk of ‘Girl In The Fire’ — this long player takes listeners on a trip through genre bending territory.
The Pendulum story thus far can only be described as one of much warranted overnight success… and their debut album holds all the promise of becoming a dance classic.
“One of the most ambitious drum’n'bass albums in history… it shows how far you can take drum’n'bass and makes the sound accessible for a whole new section of music lovers. Pendulum have created the drum’n'bass equivalent of stadium rock” (Mixmag magazine).

havelock

Tonight I went to the havelock for going away drinks for Nicole. She’s going to Sydney for 5 months to do her work experience with Resmed, I think it’s called. It was really freaky, as I walked in the door within about 20 seconds i saw a few people I knew, and within 30 seconds two of them had asked me “what am I doing here, should I be studying?”. What am I meant to say to that – perhaps I should have just called the bouncers over to take care of those people, I’m not sure!
I got cheap drinks from Jono behind the bar, from school – I don’t think I’ve seen him since school, it was great to see him.

pendulum debut, finally!!!

it’s been over a year of intense wait by my behalf, Pendulum, my current favourite DNB artist, amongs High Contrast and Klute, are FINALLY releasing his debut album this Friday night. Lots of listening to pendulum has been done at late in anticipation, and I’ve come to realise why I love his tunes so much – it’s hardcore DNB which is really driving, mixed with melodic rhythmns which inspire hope, creating an awesome contrast of emotion, all spiced up with random samples which allude to a feeling of desperation – all in all creating a whirlwind of feelings which drive me crazy.
